Institute for National Security and Military Studies
The Institute for National Security and Military Studies (INSMS) at Austin Peay State University is the first of its kind in the Southeastern United States and is supported by the state legislature to build upon Tennessee’s position as a national leader in collaborating with our military and educating the military community. In addition to providing education to the community, the Institute supports faculty research on National Security and Military Studies related topics. INSMS will partner with several other institutes in 2024 that offers our students the opportunity to conduct research on emerging security and military global topics.
With Austin Peay’s main campus in close proximity to the U.S. Army’s Fort Campbell, in addition to its stand-alone facility located on base, 365bet and the Institute for National Security and Military Studies is in a unique position to serve the military community as well as the State of Tennessee.
The National Security Studies (NSS) Bachelor’s Degree Program is a 120-hour program focused on the components that make up National Security (national defense, intelligence, international and internal security, and foreign relations) with the option of concentrations in Intelligence, Corporate Security, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This major can be completed fully online with many 8-week courses available. Graduates of the National Security Studies Program will be competitively positioned for careers in all sectors of national security in both the government and private sector.
